Box Score NEW HAVEN, CONN. (September 3, 2016)—The Sacred Heart field hockey team (0-4) was held scoreless by Yale (1-0) Saturday afternoon at Johnson Field. Pioneer goalkeeper Emily Degennaro (Wading River, N.Y.)made a career-high nine saves, but the Bulldogs managed to get two passed the junior for the 2-0 win.
SHU returns the Johnson Field this coming Friday, September 9 as the home team when they host Hofstra at 6:30 p.m.
Highlights:
- Degennaro recorded a career-best nine saves
- Rebecca Hauser (Mohrsville, Pa.) took both of SHU's shots
First Half:
- The Pioneers struggled to get anything going in the first half as th Bulldogs maintained possession throughout the period
- Nearly 14 minutes into the game Yale got on the board as Camille Scheyer converted a penalty corner for a goal
- Six minutes later, an unassisted goal from Brooke Reese expanded the Bulldogs' lead, but Degennaro would render them scoreless from that point on
Second Half:
- Yale started the latter half back in the offensive zone getting three shots off in the first 10 minutes before the Pioneers earned a penalty corner in the 60th minute
- While SHU was unable to convert the corner, Hauser got the offense going late in the game. The sophomore had a shot blocked in the 66th minute, but didn't give up getting the rebound to take another shot. That too was blocked
