
Men's Cross Country Finishes 2nd At Northeast Conference Championships

New Britain, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University men's cross country placed second at the 2017 Northeast Conference Chamionship, accumulating 53 points - the program's best-ever score in NEC Championship compeitition. The Pioneers have finished as the runner-up three consecutive seasons.
Sophomre Gilmar Barrios placed third, after missing All-Conference by a spot during his rookie season. Senior Trevor Guerrera placed fourth in the individual race. In the process, he became the first Pioneer men's cross country runner, and just the second in school history (Katie Wrinkle '04) to earn NEC All-Conference accolades in each of his four seasons with the program. Senior Andrew Handfield finished in tenth place for the Pioneers to earn All-Conference honors for the first time in his collegiate career.
SHU is back in action at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships at Audubon Golf Course, University of Buffalo, NY at 12 pm.
SHU finished behind the champion, CCSU (33 points) and ahead of Saint Francis University (59 points) to complete the top three.
