BRONX, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart baseball team fell in the series finale to Fordham 8-1 on Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers (5-13) committed five errors on the afternoon as the Rams (6-9) completed the series sweep at Houlihan Park. 

Redshirt junior P.J. DeFilippo led the Pioneers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double in the seventh inning. Junior Alex Perry went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and freshman Austin Markmann went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore Baylor Sundahl took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in three innings of work. Fellow sophomore Jackson Aldam gave up three unearned runs and struck out two batters in three innings of relief.

Fordham picked up two runs in the bottom half of the first as they worked the bases loaded on two singles and a walk. Matt Kozuch lifted the sacrifice fly into left field to bring in the first run of the game. Brian Goulard then knocked in the second run with his RBI single to left field to take the 2-0 lead.

SHU got to work in the top of the third inning as Markmann singled to shortstop then advanced to second on a balk. He would move to third as leadoff man, senior Ted Shaw reached on an error by the pitcher Matt Ogozaly. Perry drove Markmann home with his RBI single up the middle to get the Pioneers their lone run of the game. The Rams pushed ahead in the bottom of the third with back-to-back walks. Justin Bardwell then singled to right field to bring in Jake Baker to push the lead to 3-1. After Sundahl induced a double play, Goulard came up once again with the RBI single to give Fordham the 4-1 lead.  

The Rams capitalized on three Pioneers miscues in the bottom of the sixth inning to go up 7-1. Sacred Heart threatened with runners on third and first but Jake Bernardo was able to escape the inning. Reiss Knehr lined a solo home run over the right field wall of freshman Kevin Czapelski to take the final 8-1.
