
Rugby Captures Pioneers Seven Tournament With 3-0 Mark

The Sacred Heart University women's rugby team captured its inaugural Pioneer Sevens Tournament as the Pioneers officially opened Park Avenue Field. The Pioneers won the four-team tournament with a perfect 3-0 record.
Emily Mignogni notched six tries in the three matches to lead the Pioneers. Kaitlyn McNicholas and Charlotte Tallman both added three tries, as six different Pioneers scored on the day. Kaylee Hale was good on six conversions on the day.
The Pioneers return to action at the West Chester University 7s Tournament, April 15
Match 1 – Fairfield
- SHU opened the tournament with a 24-0 with a total team effort
- The Pioneers had a balanced attack, with four players each scoring a try
- Tyffany Brisbane, Marissa Yost, Mignogni and Tallman all scored tries in the win
Match 2 – Yale
- The Pioneers posted a second consecutive shutout, 34-0, over Yale, to advance into the winner bracket
- Mignogni and McNicholas both tallied two tries in the victory
- Tallman scored her second try of the day, while Allie Rinaldi notched her first try of the spring season
Match 3 – Fairfield
- SHU completed the tournament sweep with a 29-5 win over Fairfield
- Mignogni notched three tries in the victory, with one apiece from Tallman and McNicholas
