Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

EMMITSBURG, Md.—The Sacred Heart Baseball team bounced back in game two of today's doubleheader to earn its third Northeast Conference series win of the year. The Mountaineers (6-32, 4-16 NEC) shutout the Pioneers (16-26, 9-7 NEC) in game one 7-0 before SHU responded with a 7-4 win in the second contest at Straw Family Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Game One

Mount St. Mary's took control early as they plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning on two RBI singles by Will Enrico and Dennis Stewart. Enrico picked up another RBI single in the second inning off freshman Kevin Czapelski. Mount continued to push ahead adding runs in the third, fourth and fifth inning to take the 7-0 win.

The Pioneers were outhit 11-2 by the Mountaineers. Junior Anthony Capozziello and senior Ted Shaw picked up the lone hits for SHU. Zach Call pitched the complete game shutout for the Mountaineers recording four strikeouts in seven innings.

Game Two

The Pioneers were slow to get going at the start of game two before breaking the game open with a six-run top of the third inning. Capozziello opened the scoring with a RBI double to right center. Classmate Cody Doyle delivered a two-RBI single to center field with the bases loaded. Junior Alex Perry followed that up with a two-RBI double to right center field off Seth Schubert. Perry scored the final run of the inning on a throwing error by Alex Kriss.

SHU continued to hit in the top of the fourth as they picked up three-straight singles to lead off the inning. Freshman Austin Markmann delivered the RBI on a strikeout swinging as the wild pitch allowed Capozziello to score from third base.

Sophomore Baylor Sundahl was grooving on the mound for the Pioneers, only allowing three hits over the first six frames. Mount looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as Joshua Lenig picked up the RBI single to right center field and Kriss doubled to right field to bring the score to 7-2. Enrico cut the deficit to three runs with his two-run home run off senior John Sostarich in the eighth inning. Graduate Mike Lembo shut the door in the ninth inning for his third save of the season.

Capozziello led the Pioneers with three hits in the second game and now leads the team with 43 hits on the year. Redshirt junior PJ DeFilippo and Doyle also recorded two hits on the day. DeFilippo leads SHU with 13 multi-hit games this season. Sundahl recorded a career-high seven strikeouts in his third win of the season.
