
Women's Cross Country Earns First Victory

New Britain, Conn.-The Sacred Heart women's cross country team took home their first victory of the season, finishing atop the 11 Division I teams in a field that contained seven other NEC competitors.
Kate Svensen was the first Pioneer to cross the line, and led the entire field to take home her second individual title as a collegiate runner. Svensen crushed her previous 5k cross country personal record, finishing in a time of 18:11. As a freshman, Svensen ran 20:46 at the same invite.
Behind Svensen was senior Tara Connelly, who placed second in a time if 18:18.
Jody DiCicco made her season debut as SHU's third finisher, placing fifth in a time of 18:38. Lindsey Lucas was right behind her, crossing with a time of 18:43. Her finish knocked more than 90 seconds off of her freshman time in the course.
Rounding out the Top-5 for SHU was Emma Cary, who broke the 19 minute barrier in a time of 18:56, good for a 10th place finish overall.
The Pioneers are back in action Saturday October 7, at the 106th Annual New England Cross Country Championship at Franklin Park, Boston, Mass. at 11 am.
