The Sacred Heart University field hockey team earned a 1-0 win over Lehigh University in the Pioneers home opener on Johnson Field. The win improves the Pioneers to 2-2 on the year, while Lehigh falls to 1-3.

Bridget LaRiccia netted a pass from Allie Brouhard 1:45 into the game, for the only tally.  SHU allowed eight shots the remainder of the game, with Pioneer goalkeepers making four saves.  Emily Degennaro earned the win, making three saves in the first-half.  Hailey Power stopped one shot in her 35:00 of action in the second-half.

The Pioneers travel to UMass on Friday, September 8 for a 5:00 pm match.

• The Pioneers goal came after a penalty corner was broken up
• Brouhard collected the ball and fed LaRiccia on the end line and she slid the ball across the mouth of the cage for the win

• Lehigh earned nine penalty corners, seven in the first-half and the Pioneers turned them away each time
