WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team closed its season with a 7-1 road loss against top-seeded Monmouth Friday afternoon in the MAAC Tournament semifinals. Kayla Bedel-Franklin scored the lone goal for the Pioneers in the loss.

The Pioneers end the season at 8-12 overall and 2-4 in league action, while the regular-season champion Hawks improve to 12-6 on the year and 6-0 in MAAC action as they advance to Sunday's championship contest.

The Scoring

• (10:46): Josephine van der Hoop sent a pass to Elyssa Okken on a fastbreak, who put it through the keeper's legs to give Monmouth a 1-0 lead

• (17:21): Hanna Kelly sent in the corner to Annie Deusch, who shoveled a pass to Meg De Lange, who fired it past the keeper to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage

• (21:32): Okken picked up the loose ball in the circle and fired it past the keeper to give Monmouth a 3-0 lead

• (32:39): van der Hoop dribbled the ball into the circle and fired a shot into net for a 4-0 lead

• (44:14): Off the corner, Ireen Franken sent the ball in to van der Hoop, who fired it home for the goal

• (60:28): Gab Giradi beat a defender baseline and snuck it past the keeper for a 6-0 lead

• (61:38) After the corner was inserted, Colleen McAninley took a shot on goal, but it was deflected in by Kayla Bedel-Franklin to cut the deficit to 6-1

• (69:19): Georgia Garden Bachop sent the pass to Annick van Lange who put it home to seal the 7-1 final
