Box Score SHELTON, Conn,- The Sacred Heart University women's hockey team (26-6-2) earned a 6-0 win over Post University (2-27-2) on Wednesday night to advance to the NEWHA Semi Final, with Taylor Moreland becoming the all time leader for points scored in program history. Moreland scored the second goal to take her career toal to 134 points, surpassing the previous record held by Michelle Panella since 2006.
After a goaless first period SHU opened the scoring through Brittany Smith at the 6:32 mark, finding the top right corner from the left circle from and pass by Meghan Kebalka. Moreland rifiled in a second to break the all time record for points scored. SHU continued to dominate the second period scoring a third through Katie Stueve after good work from Marissa Letizio and Kebalka.
The Pioneers continued their success in the third period, as Olivia Bryant found the back of the net with a long range effort on the power play.
Less than four minutes later, Maddie Bishop increased the Pioneers lead to 5-0. She took a pass from Moreland and Bryant to finish on the power play. Brittany Smith would set up Marissa Letizio to give the Pioneers a 4-0 Sarah Erban recorded five saves on the night, en route to the shutout. The Pioneers had a total of 67 shots and St. Michaels had a total of five.
The Pioneers will be back in action Saturday Feb. 24 in the NEWHA Tournament Semi Final against Holy Cross at 1 pm hosted at number one seed Saint Anselm College.
