Pioneers Fall In Series Finale at Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I.— The Sacred Heart University baseball team was unable to stop the high-powered Bryant University offense, falling 15-6 in the series finale on Sunday. The Bulldogs (22-15-1, 13-5 NEC) used a four-run fifth and a five-run sixth inning to take the series win over the Pioneers (10-23, 5-8 NEC). 

Bryant jumped to the early lead 4-0 lead after a run in the first and three in the second inning. SHU finally got on the board in the fourth as senior Dan Schock scored on a throwing error by the Bulldogs second baseman.

The home team then turned it up a notch in the middle innings plating nine runs on four hits against the Pioneers bullpen to bring the score to 13-1. SHU tacked on five runs in the final three innings but wasn't able to escape the deficit.

The Pioneers were outhit 12-8 in the game, sophomore Stephen Thibault let the way with three hits and a RBI. SHU was taxed with six pitchers in the game all surrendering at least one run.

SHU is back in action on Tuesday, April 24 with the final meeting of the season against crosstown rival Fairfield. First pitch at Alumni Diamond is set for 3:30 p.m.
