Women's Volleyball Falls to Boston College, 3-1, to Close B.C. Invitational

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Sacred Heart women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the 2018 season, as the Pioneers closed the Boston College Invitational Saturday evening with a 3-1 (25-21, 14-25, 14-25, 18-25 ) loss against the Boston College Eagles at Power Gym.

Liisel Nelis led Sacred Heart (1-1) with 14 kills, while Sarah Ciszek added five kills and had 30 assists. Both Nelis and Ciszek were named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the B.C. invitational.

First Set: SHU 25-21

- After Boston College took a 3-2 lead, SHU took 10 of the next 13 points to take a 13-6 lead, capped by a Liisel Nelis kill.

- After the Eagles cut the deficit to 14-11, the Pioneers outscored B.C. 6-1 to take a 20-12 lead.

- Once Sacred Heart reached set point, Boston College scored three-consecutive points to cut the deficit to 24-21. However, Makayla Dole recorded a kill to secure the first set win.

- Nelis led the way in the first set with eight kills.

Second Set: B.C. 25-14

- After a kill from Nelis cut the SHU deficit to 11-6, Boston College followed by extending its lead to 17-9.

- The Pioneers tried to creep back into the set, but after a service error, Boston College took the set 25-14.

Third Set: B.C. 25-14

- SHU fell behind early 7-4 before Boston College extended its lead to 13-5.

- The Eagles held a comfortable lead until they secured the 25-14 set win.

- Five different Pioneers recorded a kill in the set.

Fourth Set: B.C. 25-18

- The two teams exchanged points to a 16-16 tie.

- After falling behind 18-16, Gianna Scioletti recorded a kill to cut the deficit to one.

- Sacred Heart was able to cut the deficit to 19-18, but it wasn't enough as B.C. scored six straight points to secure the set and match win.

SHU hit .088 for the match, while Boston College (3-0) had a hit percentage of .260. The Eagles had 60 digs to the Pioneers' 51. McKenna Goss led Boston College with 16 kills.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Wednesday, August 29, when SHU travels to take on in-state rival Fairfield at 7 p.m.
