FAIRFIELD, Conn.-The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team (0-6-0 overall, 0-0 NEC) fell to Columbia (3-1-1 overall, 0-0 Ivy League) by a score of 3-0 this afternoon. The team returns to action on Sunday Sept. 9 when they host Vermont. Game-time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. 

Columbia would fire off three shots to begin the game as Nicole Sambuco would save one of those shots while the other two were blocked or went high eight minutes into the game. SHU would get their first shot of the game off at 17:24 when Melanie DaSilva fired a shot at the goal but was saved by Sophie Whitehouse keeping the game 0-0. Then at 32:45 the Lions would get their first goal of the game courtesy of Jordyn Geller off an assist by Mallaika Tomar to put Columbia ahead 1-0. Three minutes later at 35:00 Columbia's Maddie Temares would find the back of the net putting the Lions ahead 2-0. Columbia dominated the first half in shots by a margin of 10 to three. 

After four shots were fired off by Columbia in the second half that were saved by junior Angela DiFazio, Columbia would slip a goal passed DiFazio at 52:18 to put the Lions ahead 3-0. The Pioneers would be able to find some open shots as Lindsay Savko would launch a shot at 57:31 but goalie Marie Matthews would come up with the save. Then at 74:05 Lindsay Corallo would fire a shot off but went just wide right keeping the score at 3-0. SHU won the shots battle in the second half by a margin of three to two but it would not be enough for a Pioneer comeback as they fell by a final score of 3-0.
