Box Score The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team completed its regular season with a 4-0 win over NEWHA foe St. Michael's College. The Pioneers improve to 20-7-4 overall and 9-4-3 in NEWHA, while the Purple Knights fall to 6-16-1 overall and 4-11-1 in league action
Katie Stueve led the Pioneers with a goal and an assist on her senior night. Sarah Erban, also celebrating senior night made 23 saves for the shutout.
The Pioneers earn the second-seed in the NEWHA Tournament, which will be hosted by St. Ansel, The Pioneers will face Franklin Pierce in the semifinals, Saturday, February 23rdat 7:00 pm.
First Period
- Neither team was able to break into the scoring column in the opening period
- The Purple Knights held a 10-9 shot advantage and won eight of the 13 first period faceoffs
Second Period
- Stueve gave the Pioneers the lead, putting home a pass from Samantha Shoebottom 618 into the period
- Erban kept the Pioneers in front, robbing Jenna Harrison, 2:34 later, as Harrison came in alone on a breakaway
- SHU outshot St. Michael's 11-6 in the second and won 11-18 faceoffs
Third Period
- Jayne Lewis swept in the right side and put home a Stueve pass at the 8:41 mark to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead
- Erban kept the score scoreless with 6:13 to play, with a glove save on a point blank shot
- Maddie Bishop scored unassisted at the 11:40 mark and Haley Payne rounded out the scoring with a goal at the 17:15 mark
