Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, MD. - The Sacred Heart University baseball team split its doubleheader contests on the road against Mount St. Mary's Friday, winning game one 7-4 and dropping game two 12-9. The Pioneers moved to 17-29-1 on the season and 9-11 in the NEC, while the Mountaineers moved to 15-33 and 8-15 in NEC-play.

John Cerretani got the win after giving up one run on four hits, while striking out three in 3.1 innings of relief in game one. Elijah Brown and Anthony Porrino led the charge in the game one win, as the duo combined to go 3-for-8 with two homers and four RBI's.

GAME 1 NOTES (SHU 7, MSM 4):

  • Ryan LaMay got the start and took the no-decision after surrendering three runs on five hits and striking out four in 5.2 innings of work

  • John Cerretani got the win after giving up one run on four hits, while striking out three in 3.1 innings of relief

  • Elijah Brown went 2-for-5 with two RBI's

  • Anthony Porrino drove in two runs

  • Jake Frasca and Justin Jordan drove in a run apiece

  • With SHU trailing 1-0 in the third, Brown drilled an RBI single to right to tie the contest at 1-1

  • The Mountaineers added two runs in the third to take a 3-1 run

  • Jordan cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth with an RBI single

  • With the contest tied at 3-3, Mount scored seven total runs in the next two innings to hold a 10-3 lead

  • SHU cut the deficit to 10-5 after Markmann hit a two-run homer

  • The Pioneers added three runs in the eighth to trim the deficit to 10-8, before Mount St. Mary's answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the inning
