Kelly Tallies Career-High Three Defensive Saves in Field Hockey's 2-0 Loss vs. Holy Cross

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell to Holy Cross, 2-0 Friday evening at Johnson Field. Bridget Kelly tallied a career-high three defensive saves in the loss. 

With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Crusaders improve to 2-2 on the season with the win. SHU will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 14 when the Pioneers travel to Hamden to take on Quinnipiac at noon. 

The Scoring

First Quarter 

  • (13:59): Emily Devine took a shot on goal, the goalkeeper made the save but Kristen Weber shot the rebound home for the goal to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead

Fourth Quarter 

  • (46:18): Madeline Aldefer took a shot at the net, but Minke Koomen directed it home to give Holy Cross a 2-0 lead

Noteworthy

  • The Crusaders outshot the Pioneers 31-10

  • SHU registered four shots on goal compared to 23 for Holy Cross

  • Alyssa Stevens made a season-high seven saves and allowed one goal

  • Hailey Power made 11 saves and allowed one goal

  • Bridget Kelly tallied a single-game career-high three defensive saves in the loss

  • The three defensive saves gives Kelly four on the season, surpassing her previous season-high of two in 2018

  • SHU generated seven penalty corners, while Holy Cross registered eight
