PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Ice Hockey team picked up its third straight victory of the year with a convincing 9-3 victory over Johnson and Wales this afternoon. The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Jan. 17 when SHU kicks off a home and home with Post. Puck-drop is set for 2:00 p.m.

First Period 

• The Pioneers outshot the Wildcats by a large margin of 22-2.
• SHU took 13 faceoffs while Johnson and Wales won 10.
• The Wildcats did get on the board first in the period off a goal by Hannah Tracy just 6:49 into the period off a pair of assists by Hallee Courtamanche and Cassie Wakefield to put Johnson and Wales ahead 1-0.
• But the second half of the period belonged to SHU as senior Jayne Lewis continued her impressive season with an unassisted goal 14:47 in the first to even the score up at 1-1.
• Then just over a minute later senior Maddie Bishop cashed in her first goal of game off an assist by sophomore Samantha Shoebottom to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.  

Second Period

• The Pioneers continued their strong play in the second period as they outshot the Wildcats 11-5 in the period.
• Johnson and Wales would even the score up early in the period as a goal by Cassie Wakefield just 6:49 into the period tied the game up at 2-2.
• After the Wildcat goal, SHU dominated the remainder second period as they tallied four goals in the period first coming off the stick of sophomore Samantha Shoebottom fired off her third goal of the season off an assist by Maddie Bishop to put the Pioneers ahead 3-2.
• Then just two minutes later 10:15 into the period first-year Alexa Ocel scored her third goal of the season off a stick pass by Jayne Lewis to up the Pioneers lead to 4-2.
• Shoebottom's day wasn't over year as six minutes later in the period 16:20 in she would score her second of the day off another assist by Bishop to put SHU ahead 5-2.
• Then in closing minutes of the period sophomore Anna Klein cashed in her eighth goal of the year 18:14 into the period off an assist by Ocel to send the game into the third period with the Pioneers ahead 6-2.

Third Period 

• SHU didn't stop the attack in the third as the Pioneers outshot Johnson and Wales 10-8.
• The Pioneers kicked off the period with a goal by sophomore Kennedy Spiering just 3:51 into the period off an assist by first-year Natalie Kennedy to put SHU ahead 7-2.
• Less than a minute later 4:24 into the period senior Victoria Grimmer nailed her sixth goal of the year off an assist by Bishop to take a commanding 8-2 lead.
• Then Klein followed up shortly after 5:10 into the period as she tallied her second of the game to give SHU a 9-2 lead.
• Johnson and Wales scored one more goal in the period off the stick of Koryn Russell to make the final score 9-3.

• SHU outshot the Wildcats 43-15.
• Sophomore Samantha Shoebottom led the way for SHU with two goals and one assist for 3 points.
• Senior Maddie Bishop had a five point evening with one goal and four assists.
• Sophomore Anna Klein had a two goal day as well with two goals for two points.
• SHU improves to 11-10 overall on the year while Johnson and Wales falls to 6-7-2.
