Box Score The Sacred Heart University baseball team opened its 2020 season with a 5-3 loss to non-conference host VCU, Friday afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-1 on the year, while the Rams improve to 4-1 on the season.
The two teams will continue a three-game set tomorrow, with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch

- The Rams took an early lead, as Paul Witt walked and came around to score following back-to-back hits from Tyler Locklear and Liam Hibbits
- The Pioneers plated their first run of the season in the top of the third, when Elijah Brown led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Bobby Garbuio was caught stealing
- Steven Carpenter led off the home sixth with a single, as the Rams loaded the bases with no outs
- Carpenter scored on a Alex Aguila sacrifice bunt, for a 2-1 lead
- Jordan and Stephen Thibault led off the top of the eighth with singles, putting runners on the corner
- Jordan scored on an attempted double steal, tying the game 2-2
- Frasca got the Pioneers offense going again with a two-out single, and Oliver followed with a walk
- Porrino drove in Frasca with a single to center, and the Pioneers lead 3-2
- VCU plated three runs in the bottom of the inning, taking the lead, 5-3
- Evan Chenier tossed the ninth for VCU, to earn the save
