
Martin Takes Third In Three Meter Dive While Swimming and Diving Place Sixth

EAST MEADOW, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Swimming and Diving team concluded the final day of competition at the Northeast Conference Championships tonight. SHU took sixth place overall with 277 points. The Pioneers didn't leave East Meadow with clinching a medal as sophomore Molly Martin took third place in the three meter dive to conclude the day.
Bryant took first place with 813.5 points followed by Central Connecticut with 586 and Wagner with 455. Saint Francis U placed fourth with 531 then LIU in fifth with 415 with SHU behind in sixth with 277. St. Francis (N.Y.), took seventh with 274 points while Mount Saint Mary's and Merrimack round out the team scores as Mount Saint Mary's tallied 127.5 and Merrimack had 97 points respectively.
EVENING SESSION (Finals Results)
1650 Freestyle
- Margaret Flaherty placed 18th touching the wall with a time of 18:22.61
- Jillian Pusateri placed 21st with a time of 18:41.89 to round out the two participants for SHU in the event.
200 Yard Backstroke
- First-year Casey Barrett placed eighth with a season best time of 2:06.94.
- Sophomore Taylor Eck placed 16th with a season best time of 2:10.82.
- First-year Ashley Ayala also tallied a season best time touching the wall with a time of 2:11.43.
- Fellow first-year Kelly Bartnett placed 21st with a season best time of 2:12.26.
100 Yard Freestyle
- Senior Lauren Somers tallied a season best time of 52.36 as she placed 14th.
- Junior Emily Peter also recorded a season best time of 53.80 as she placed 22nd.
200 Yard Butterfly
- Sophomore Nicole Tingley placed 10th with a time of 2:08.08.
- Senior Nikole Rudis placed 18th with a season best time of 2:15.03.
- Hyzell Lim placed 21st with a season best time of 2:18.84.
400 Yard Free Relay
- The team of Nicole Tingley, Grace Bergstrom, Emily Peter and Lauren Somers placed sixth with a combined time of 3:32.43. Tingley led off in the 50 and 100 free as she tallied times of 25.23 and 27.81. Bergstrom followed in the 150 and 200 free with times of 25.40 and 28.35. Peter followed in the next leg of the relay with times of 25.17 and 28.62 while Somers closing the relay with times of 24.62 and 27.23.
3 Meter Diving
- Sophomore Molly Martin took third place and the team's lone medal with a score of 213.35.
- Megan McLaughlin placed seventh place a score of 181.80
MORNING SESSION (Prelim Results)
SHU tallied 11 season-best efforts during the morning session.
200 Backstroke
- First-year Casey Barrett placed 8th with a season best time of 2:06.90.
- Taylor Eck followed with a 14th place finish with a season best time of 2:08.69.
- Ashley Ayala took 20th with a season best time of 2:11.44.
- Kelly Bartnett placed 21st touching the wall with a season best time of 2:11.80.
100 Freestyle
- Senior Lauren Somers placed 11th with a season best time of 52.04.
- Junior Emily Peter touched the wall with a season best time of 53.52 to place 19th.
- Grace Bergstrom placed 25th with a season best time of 54.37.
- Shanna Haddow placed 36th with a season time of 57.52.
200 Breaststroke
- Fiona Maxwell placed 24th with a time of 2:31.34.
- Sarah Hensal tallied a season best with a time of 2:32.22 to place 26th.
- Julia Pusateri placed 28th with a season best time of 2:34.81.
200 Butterfly
- Sophomore Nicole Tingley tallied a time of 2:09.67 as she placed 10th.
- Nikole Rudis followed right behind with a season best time of 2:13.30 as she placed 18th.
- Hyzell Lim tallied a time of 2:19.51 to place 22nd overall.
3-Meter Diving
- Sophomore Molly Martin placed third with a score of 205.80.
- Teammate Megan McLaughlin placed fourth with a score of 187.85.
- Alexandra Bonanno placed 10th with a score of 144.15.
- Jessica Pianese rounded out the prelim results with a score of 116.40 to place 15th.
