FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's basketball team plays its final regular season game of the season on Thursday, when it hosts Long Island University for Kids Day. Game time is set for 11:00 am at the Pitt Center, with an anticipated crowd of 1,200 elementary age students from the area. The Pioneers are 11-17 on the season and 8-9 in league play, while the Sharks are 8-20 overall and 7-20 in NEC action.
The Pioneers can earn the four-seed with a win today and a loss by FDU at The Mount this evening. There are 16-seeding scenarios entering play on Thursday: four give the Pioneers the four seed, and six chances each for the five or six-seed. Robert Morris has secured the top-seed, while Mount St. Mary's will be the second-seed
Jayla Davis was named an NEC Prime Performer on Wednesday, after scoring a career-high 21 against St. Francis. She averaged 15 points per game last week, with nine assists, three steals and six rebounds.
LIU won the first meeting of the year between these two squads, in Brooklyn, on a buzzer beating half court heave, 66-63. Sonia Smith had a career-night, with 23 points, while Marie-Laeticia Ziba netted 11
SHU scored a season-high 84 points in the win over St. Francis on Saturday, its first game over 80 points this season. The Pioneers connected on a season-best 14 three pointers, hitting 11 in a first-half that saw SHU score 52 points. In addition, the Pioneers connected on a season-best 29 field goals, handed out a season-best 22 assists and blocked a season-high 11 shots.
