Playing a mere 835 miles from their two campus' in the Nutmeg State, the Sacred Heart University baseball team (5-6) used a pair of RBI from Jake Frasca to earn its second-straight victory in the Swing and Swine Tournament, 3-2 over the Yale Bulldogs (2-6). 

The Pioneers will continue the three-day tournament at Shipyard Park in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on Sunday morning with a single game against Purdue Fort Wayne. First pitch between the Pioneers and the Mastodons is slated for 10:00 a.m. 

Pitching Lines

•  Sacred Heart relied of a trio of pitchers in the victory over Yale with junior right hander Cooper Thompson earning his first victory of the season in three decisions. In what was his second straight of the season, Thompson pitched 5.1 innings and allowed a single earned run on six hits and a walk while striking out four batters. 
• Redshirt senior righty John Cerretani pitched seven outs of middle relief for the Pioneers. He was also tagged with a single earned run, giving up a pair of hits and walking one batter. He also struck out two. 
• Rounding out the Pioneers staff on the day was David Aufiero who picked up his second save of the season, pitching to a total of seven batters and finishing a scoreless appearance with two hits and a walk allowed. Aufiero also struck out two batters for a total of eight K's for the entire Pios staff. 
• Suffering the loss for the Bulldogs was starter Ben Gibbs who threw six innings and surrendered all three of the Pioneers runs, two of which were earned, on six hits and three walks. He also finished with a game-best five strikeout. 

At the Plate

• Overall, the Pioneers scattered seven hits against the Bulldogs with those base knocks coming from six different players. The lone batter to finish with a multi-hit outing for Sacred Heart was second baseman Danny Glendon who has finished with a pair of hits in two of the three games thus far in the Swing and Swine Tournament. 
• Third baseman Jake Frasca also led the Pioneers at the plate when he knocked in two of the three runs, finishing 1-of-5 overall. His first RBI of the afternoon came on a one-out double while he knocked in what turned out to be the game-winning run on an infield groundout to second base. 
• Despite finishing hitless on the day, nine-hole hitter Joey Skarad reached base on a pair of occasions both on walks. The second of those walks led off the fifth inning and was eventually turned into the Pioneers first of two runs in the frame. 
• Leading all players at the plate on the day was Yale's Teddy Hague who finished 3-of-4 with two RBI and a double. 

How it Happened

• The Pioneers didn't waste any time before plating the first run of the day on a one-out double to right center from Jake Frasca. That two-bagger drove in Justin Jordan who led off the game being hit by a pitch. 
• Yale also didn't wait long before knotting the score at one, pushing a single run across in the bottom of the first on a two-out rally with an RBI single from five-hole hitter Teddy Hague scoring the leadoff batter Harry Hegeman, who originally led off the inning with a single, keeping the inning alive. 
• Two runs in the top of the fifth would put the Pioneers on top for good. The original go-ahead run was made possible by a leadoff walk which came on four straight pitches and was issued to Joey Skarad. After he advanced to second on a single to center from Jordan, Skarad was able to score on a second-straight single, this one down the third base line with the throw from the third baseman allowing the run to score. 
• That error also led Jordan at third base with no outs as he was able to score on the next play when Frasca grounded out to second base earning the RBI on what eventually turned out to be the game-winning run. 
• The Bulldogs managed to get one run back in the eighth inning and put themselves in a position to make a rally attempt in the ninth. The run in the eighth for Yale came on a two-out rally with back-to-back doubles plating the run. The first of those two-baggers came from Jake Gehri, while Hague picked up the RBI, his second of the afternoon. 
• Yale threatened again in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with two outs before David Aufiero closed things out forcing third baseman Carson Swank into a fly ball out for the Pioneers second straight victory in the Swing and Swine Tournament and his second decision is as many games securing the save.
