BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The Sacred Heart University's field hockey team dropped a 3-0 contest at Long Island on Friday. The team has two Northeast Conference matchups left in the regular season before the tournament slated for November 5 and 7.
SHU dropped to 2-3 in the league and 2-13 overall, while LIU improved to 4-1 and 6-8.
With seven minutes remaining in the second quarter, Long Island connected for its first goal of the night off a penalty corner to take the 1-0 lead before the half.
The Sharks capitalized on an empty net opportunity when SHU's goalkeeper,
Samantha Maresca, left her mark at 5:13 into the fourth. During a penalty corner, the home team grasped the 3-0 win with seconds left in the final quarter.
