Smith Named NEC Player of the Week

The junior guard was the leading scorer in the Pioneers’ two victories
SOMERSET, N.J.— Sacred Heart University women's basketball guard Sonia Smith was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league on Monday.
The junior made her first career starts and was the top scorer in the Pioneers' two victories. Smith posted a season-high 22 points, five rebounds and five assists in the season-opener at Hartford. The native of Upper Marlboro, Md. would go on to match her season-high while notching seven rebounds and three assists in the home-opener against Brown.
This marks the first Player of the Week honor and third NEC weekly accolade overall for Smith. She was named Rookie of the Week twice in her first season with the Pioneers. Emaia O'Brien of LIU was named Rookie of the Week.
Sacred Heart hosts Yale at the Pitt Center on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
