SHU posts 3-8 record across three-day tournament
MILLSBORO, Del. – The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team finished 15th overall at the Hawk Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore over the weekend.
The three-day tournament began with Baker total pinfall action and the Pioneers started strong with back-to-back wins over North Carolina A&T (918-881) and Monmouth (982-939). However, SHU dropped the next three matches to Delaware State (1,053-893), UMES (971-967) and Youngstown State (968-780).
In day two, the Pioneers went 1-3 in traditional scoring (total pinfall). The lone win of the day was a 997-987 decision over Wilmington (Del.) led by Hannah Mannetta with a score of 235. Mannetta's score was the highest of the day for SHU. The Pioneers fell to Vanderbilt (939-898), Sam Houston State (1,040-802) and Adelphi (1,058-1,011).
Sacred Heart's two-day score of 9,147 placed them 13th out of 15 teams which helped determine the matchups on Sunday. On the final day of competition, the Red & White took part in two Baker match play bouts. SHU fell to both Monmouth (1,197-1,135) and St. Francis Brooklyn (908-878). The 0-2 showing on the final day dropped the Pioneers to 15th.
