SHELTON, Conn. — Nicole Guidi's early first-period goal was all the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team needed against Post University on Tuesday. The Red & White secured a 4-0 shutout against the Eagles in the non-conference matchup.
SHU remains the second seed with a 5-2-1 league record and 8-5-1 overall, white PU sits fifth with a 2-8-0 NEWHA record and 2-12-0.
Following the first goal, the Pioneers would build on their cushion in the second period with goals from
Kelly Solak,
Katie Keenan and
Charlotte Huntington.
Solak's sixth goal of the season came off the sticks of sophomore
Samantha Ostrowski and first-year
Megan Gates for both forwards first career assist.
In the past two of the three games for the Pioneers, Huntington closed out a shutout with the last goal of the night. Her second goal of the season came off the assist of
Adrianna Kobyleckyj four and a half minutes into the second period.
In the cage,
Frankie Sanchez nabbed 16 saves in her 50 minutes of play and
Carly Greene closed out the game with one save.
Sacred Heart competes in its first-ever Nutmeg Classic hosted by UConn on November 26-27.
