LAS VEGAS – The Sacred Heart University men's wrestling team tested its medal this weekend at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Wrestling Invitational. The 32-team event was held over two days at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
At 165 pounds,
Scott Jarosz lost his opening bout to the #4 seed, Cameron Amine from Michigan, who is ranked 10
th in the country. Jarosz came back to post an 11-1 major decision over Citadel's Grant Speer. Brady Chrisman of Kent State stopped Jarosz's run with a 5-2 win in the next round.
The Pioneers had several tough draws, facing ranked and seeded wrestlers.
At 125 pounds,
Kyle Randall narrowly lost, 7-4, in the consolation bracket to Utah Valley's Yusief Lilie.
Anthony Petrillo got beat in the consols, 4-1, by the No. 6 seed, Matt Ramos from Purdue.Â
The first contest at 141 pounds for
Jordan Carlucci was a narrow 6-0 defeat to the eighth seed Jake Bergeland from Minnesota.
Shaun Williams had to face the number nine and 10 seeds at 157 pounds.Â
Joe Accousti had two tough losses at 184 pounds, including a defeat to the third seed Jonathan Loew from Cornell.
Connor Rossi at 197 pounds had to take on a pair of seeded wrestlers with an opening round bout against No. 6 Jake Woodley of Oklahoma.
Nick Copley hung in with South Dakota State's AJ Nevills, the sixth seed at 285 pounds.
The Pioneers host their first dual meet of the season when they welcome Binghamton to the Pitt Center on December 18 at 1 p.m.
