Baseball Falls to Merrimack 2-1

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The Sacred Heart University baseball team was bested 2-1 by Merrimack in a close defeat at home on Friday. The Pioneers have dropped the first two games of the against the Warriors.

Sacred Heart: 8-15, 4-4 NEC

Merrimack: 7-10, 4-4 NEC

Statistical Leaders:

Elijah Brown (SHU): 0-2, 1R

Michael Jamele (MC): 2-3, 1R

Of Note:

  • Even though he surrendered the one run, Merrimack's Riley Sorenson pitched a no-hitter.
  • After the Warriors scored one in the top half of the fourth, SHU tied the game without a hit.
  • Eljjah Brown led off with a walk, stole second, moved up to third on a ground then scored on Isiah Daubon's sacrifice fly to right field.
  • The scoring remained stagnant until the eighth inning when Merrimack tallied the eventual winning run off a SHU throwing error.
  • Left-hander Chase Jeter was saddled with the loss even though threw a tough 7.1 innings. He gave up two runs, one earned, with five strikeouts.
