Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. — For the second home game in a row the Sacred Heart University field hockey team was defeated in the waning minutes of the game. The Pioneers f ell, 2-0, versus LIU in Northeast Conference action on Monday.
The Pioneers dropped to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the league, while the Sharks' improved to 3-1 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.
For 56 minutes, the game was knotted at zero until LIU's Sol Espona broke the tie with an unassisted goal. A minute and a half later the Sharks notched an insurance goal.
LIU outshot the Red and White 11-4. Goalkeeper Hailey Power dominated the first three quarters, making seven of her nine saves, while LIU's goalie Rachel Vellis had four.
SHU is back in action on April 8 at Bryant at 3 p.m.
