Field Hockey Drops Season Opener at Syracuse

Four first-years made their first career start for the Pioneers

Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y.. — In its season opener, the Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell, 7-0, to Syracuse on Friday.
 
The Orange took the lead in the first two minutes of the game off an unassisted shot from the top of the circle by Pleun Lammers.
 
Isabelle Chamberlain led the SHU offense with two shots including one on goal, while co-captain Mia Katterman had a defensive save at 13:49 of the second quarter. 
 
Syracuse outshot Sacred Heart 32-2 and took 13 corners to just a pair by the visitors.
 
First-years Abby Lauer, Ava Czarnota, Gabriella Armesto and Samantha Maresca stepped on the field for their first collegiate start.

SHU stays in New York to face the University of Vermont on Saturday at 2 p.m.
