FAIRFIELD, Conn.-- The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team fell, 61-59 on the road at Fairfield University on Wednesday night on the road at the Stags new Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
Mike Sixsmith and
Bryce Johnson led the Pioneers with 13 points each.Â

Fairfield used a 7-0 run in the final 2:50 of the game to tie the game and take the lead with a last second shot attempt. The Pioneers got the ball back with less than a second to go but couldn't connect to tie the game.

The Stags opened the game with a quick 8-0 run but, the Pioneers battled back and took a two-point lead at 8:11 in the first half. Fairfield went on to take a five-point lead at the half, 32-27.

Sacred Heart used a 9-0 run with two three-pointers from
Joey Reilly and another from Sixsmith to take its largest lead of the game, 49-40, at 11:47 in the second half. The Pioneers went on to lead by as much as six points, before Fairfield would come back with its 7-0 run in the final minutes to take the 61-59 final.

Aidan Carpenter made his return to the lineup and contributed with nine points.
