SHELTON, Conn. — Frankie Sanchez denied every opposing puck in the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team 3-0 shutout against Saint Michael's on Friday.
The Pioneers added another to the win column for a 13-11-2 overall record and 7-5-2 in NEWHA, while the Purple Knights fell to 2-16-1 and 0-12-1.
Co-captain Kelly Solak found Kerryn O'Connell's stick for the first goal of the game at the 13:40 mark in the opening period.
Alexa Ocel and Paige McNeil padded the lead with two more goals in the second. Set up perfectly by co-captain Anna Klein, Ocel didn't let the short-handed Red & White stop her from putting the team up, 2-0. McNeil tallied the final goal of the night thanks to Ocel and Klein.
Sanchez made 18 saves for her fifth shutout of the season.
SHU outshot Saint Michael's 51-18 and killed all three opposing powerplays.
Sacred Heart continues its series against the Purple Knights on February 12 at 2:30 p.m.
