BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Following a heartbreaking loss in game one of the weekend series, the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team drew a 2-2 stalemate with LIU on Saturday. The Pioneers are in fourth place in the NEWHA.
SHU's record moved to 12-11-2 overall and 7-5-2 in the league, while LIU maintained first place with 13-10-3 and 11-1-2.
The Pioneers kickstarted the scoring after
Cannady Taleghani connected with the net 12:37 into the opening period off the sticks of
Cassandra Nevers and
Nicole Guidi.
The Sharks evened the score at 1:03 in the second period following two quick saves by
Frankie Sanchez.Â
Kelly Solak drilled in her eighth goal of the season with support from
Anna Klein and Guidi five and a half minutes into the final period of regulation.
Ten minutes later, the Sharks scored the equalizer to force overtime, where neither team could snap the 2-2 tie.
The home team outshot SHU, 41-29.
Sacred Heart hosts Saint Michael's in a back-to-back series on February 11-12 at 4 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
