FAIRFIELD, Conn.—The second half comeback was not enough for the Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team as it fell to Monmouth, 13-10, at Campus Field, on Friday.

Monmouth had the 3-0 lead at the start of the first quarter before Sacred Heart's
Emma Kittredge flipped in the ball at the 3:07 mark. With five seconds left,
Lydia Werlau notched the Pioneers' second goal on a free position shot.
Werlau scored Sacred Heart's only goal in the second quarter as she took advantage on a man-up situation to score on another free position at the 5:55 mark. Monmouth responded with two-straight goals to extend its lead to 7-3 going into halftime.
The Hawks came out with two more goals in the beginning of the third quarter. In the final minutes,
Sydney Colesworthy and
Kelly Nolan got on the board to trim Monmouth's lead to 9-5.
Grace Reinold opened the fourth quarter with a goal on a free position shot at the 12:38 mark. The Hawks tallied four more goals to extend their lead 13-6.
Sacred Heart made its biggest run of the game when
Mikala Eacrett flipped the ball into the net that led to four unanswered Pioneer goals.
Monmouth had the advantage on the draw controls as it collected 20 compared to the Pioneers' seven.
Reinold and Werlau finshed the contest with three goals apiece. Goalie
Lisa Martin recorded 11 saves and picked up a career-high seven ground balls.
