SHU Advances to Winner's Bracket of NEC Tournament

Pioneers best number five LIU, 2-0
HAMILTON, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team is moving on to the winner's bracket of the Northeast Conference Tournament thanks to a 2-0 best of three Mega Match win over number five Long Island on Thursday.
Sacred Heart first grabbed a 1-0 advantage over the Sharks with a 1,076-904 win in the traditional match. In the baker match, SHU grew a 58-pin cushion after the first game, 246-188, but LIU evened the playing field in the next game when the two teams swapped scores. The Pioneers took back their lead in the very next game, 216-190. SHU went on to win the last two games to seal the win and forgo the best of seven series.
Colby Jones led during the team game as she bowled a 256 in the first spot. The graduate student went 8-10 in strikes along with Amanda Shelters. Sophomore Paige Donovan subbed in in the seventh frame and contributed four strikes to help SHU grab the convincing win.
Donovan continued her hot streak and threw seven-straight strikes to kick off the best of five baker match. First-year Nancy Kohut also contributed strikes or spares in 20 frames during the match.
The top-seeded Pioneers will face off with number two Mount St. Mary's tomorrow at 9 a.m.
