Pioneers Bested by Blue Devils 5-3

David Aufiero put in four innings of work with no runs allowed and a season-high four strikeouts.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — After knotting the game at three apiece in the seventh inning, the Sacred Heart University baseball team let up two runs in the next two frames for the 5-3 loss against Central Connecticut State on Thursday.

Of Note:
After CCSU took a three-run lead in the third, the Pioneers rallied back within one in the following inning. Joe Emerson reached first on an error by the shortstop to allow Ryan Donnelly to notch the first run for the Red & White. At the next at bat, Dante D'amore's sacrifice fly to right field brought Emerson home.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Sam Mongelli reached first base off an error by the shortstop which allowed Tyler Galletti to capitalize for the tying run.

The final two innings saw one Blue Devil run apiece for the lead and eventual win.

In his seventh career start behind the plate, Galletti had his best day at the plate after he went three for four with a run and a double. 

Emerson also had a successful day with a run and an RBI after he hit two of four.

Coming in the fourth inning, David Aufiero threw for four innings and allowed no runs with a season-high four strikeouts. The junior retired three-straight batters in the fifth and sixth innings.
