The Hawks took an early lead in the first inning off a double that brought home two and recorded a pair across the second and sixth.
Steven Schoen singled to right field to allow
Ryan Donnelly to put the Pioneers on the board in the bottom of the sixth.
The seventh inning saw two more Hawks score for a 6-1 lead.Â
Tyler Galletti and
Joe Emerson cut the deficit to within three in the bottom of the seventh. Galletti singled two left field to bring
Dante D'amore home. Three at bats later, Emerson reached first base on an error which allowed
Mark Smith to cross the plate.
Michael Attonito came in relief for the final out of the second and went 2.1 hitless innings with a pair of strikes.
Trent Price closed out the final inning and denied a single hit by the Hawks.
