Sacred Heart had a strong second half with a down-to-the-wire final minute to try to pull away with a win. The Terriers made a dunk with 57 seconds left, which put them up by five, 77-72, but the Pioneers answered and were within two with 13 seconds left, 81-79. St. Francis made one free-throw to go up by three, 82-79, with 10 seconds remaining in the game. Sacred Heart had one last chance to make a three to tie the game but could not knock the shot down, and the Terriers got out with their first NEC victory.

After being down by nine to open the half, Sacred Heart tied the game 52-52, coming from an and-one three-point play from Solomon at 10:11 in the second half. A three-pointer by Reilly at 8:12 would give the Pioneers their first lead of the second half, 60-59. From there, neither team led by more than three points until 57 seconds left in the game when the Terriers went up by five.

Sacred Heart found themselves down by nine, 13-4 through the opening seven minutes of play. Solomon and Reilly answered with the next five points to bring Sacred Heart within four, 13-9, at 12:45 in the first half. Galette made a three-pointer that sparked a 9-2 run for the Pioneers, giving Sacred Heart its first lead of the game at 18-17 with 7:24 left in the opening half. For the next three minutes, neither team led by more than four points. With 3:54 left in the first half, the Terriers knocked down a three that sparked a 13-2 run to close out the half with a 38-29 lead.
