PHILADELPHIA, PA. — Sacred Heart University men's fencing competed for the first time in 2023 at the UPenn Invitational against 11 opponents that included Duke, Lafayette College, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, NYU, Wagner, University of North Carolina, Haverford, NJIT and FDU.
The foil squad won 13 bouts while the epee squad won seven bouts for the red and white. The saber squad won 24 bouts throughout the competition, the best among the men's weapons for the Pioneers.
Mateo Villareal and Dominic Bartolo posted the best record for the men's fencing team, going 8-6 and 9-6 respectively for the saber squad.
