Of Note:
Boston started things off with a quick lead, going up by four in the opening two minutes, but it didn't take the SHU long to answer as
Aidan Carpenter knocked down a three on the Pioneers' next possession. A jumper for the Terriers at 13:56 would put BU up by three and spark an 8-0 run to take a 14-5 advantage. Carpenter again had the answer for Sacred Heart as he hit another trey, and the Pioneers went on a 15-0 run to take a 20-14 lead at 6:03 in the first half.
Two made free throws by
Kyle McGee gave the Pioneers their largest lead of the game, 23-16, with just over four minutes left in the half. Boston hit a three-pointer with 46 seconds left to take a 24-23 lead, followed by a Carpenter layup with 21 seconds left to give SHU a 25-24 edge. BU called a timeout with 13 seconds left and was able to hit a jumper with two seconds on the clock to go ahead 26-25 at the half.
The teams traded three-pointers to open the second half, and a layup by
Alex Sobel would put the Pioneers up 31-30 at 18:06. BU put away the next five to take a six-point lead, but
Mike Sixsmith hit one from behind the arc to pull SHU within three, 36-33 at 16:41.
The Terriers regained a six-point lead until a good free throw from
Raymond Espinal-Guzman and a layup by Galette cut the Pioneers' deficit to three once again. BU continued with the advantage, but Sobel kept SHU within reach with back-to-back layups to trail, 45-42 at 9:40. From there, BU went on a run to ultimately put the game away, taking the 70-49 final.
