Men's Basketball Wraps Up Non-Conference Play With Mercy on Saturday

SHU will play its second of three straight home games

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Following its 67-57 home victory over Dartmouth last week, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team will play its second straight home game on Saturday, December 30, against Mercy University at 2:00 pm in the William H. Pitt Center.

LAST TIME OUT:
  • Sacred Heart won its home game against Dartmouth 67-57 on Dec. 21. 
  • Joey Reilly led three Pioneers in double figures, tying his season-high with 19 points, and dished out a team-high three assists. 
  • Kyle McGee had his second straight double-figure game with 15 points.
  • Nico Galette was third on the team in scoring with 14 points.
  • Alex Sobel led the team with nine rebounds and four blocks.  
OPENING TIP:
  • Sacred Heart and Mercy will meet for the first time on Saturday. 
  • SHU is coming off a 67-57 home victory over Dartmouth on Dec. 21, while the Mavericks play its second consecutive road game after a 76-60 loss on Dec. 9. 
  • Three Pioneers are averaging in double figures: Nico Galette (14.1), Alex Sobel (11.2), and Tanner Thomas (10.8). Sobel leads the team in rebounds (6.9), and Galette is second with 6.4 rpg.
  • Sobel is tied for fourth in the nation in blocks with 33 (as of 12/28) and is 15th in blocks per game with 2.36.  
  • Kyle McGee recorded his 1,000th career point on 12/19 at UAlbany. 
  • Galette and Thomas have brought in NEC Player of the Week awards for the Pioneers this season. 
  • Galette, Reilly, and McGee were voted captains of the 2023-24 squad.  
  • SHU was selected first in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Galette and Reilly were selected to the All-NEC preseason team. Galette and Reilly earned All-NEC first and third-team honors last season, respectively.
