Sacred Heart Edged in Overtime 14-13 Against Manhattan

Reinold and Kittredge led Pioneers with four goals apiece

BRONX, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team forced overtime in its season-opener at Manhattan on Saturday, but ultimately fell by a 14-13 final score.

Of Note
After Manhattan took a 7-1 lead to start the second quarter, graduate student Lydia Werlau flipped the ball into the net on a man-up, free-position attempt that started a Sacred Heart three-goal run to cut the deficit to three, 7-4.  
 
The Pioneers chipped in four goals while holding the Jaspers scoreless in the third quarter. Werlau tied the game at nine-all at the 1:39 mark.
 
Grace Reinold tied the game again with 11:37 left in the fourth quarter before Manhattan went back up by two with back-to-back goals, 12-10.
 
With under three minutes left and down by two, Werlau and senior Emma Kittredge contributed goals to knot the game at 13-13 to end regulation.
 
The Jaspers got the winning goal 1:01 into overtime.
 
Three Pioneers recorded first hat tricks. Kittredge and Grace Reinold led the Pioneers with four goals each while Werlau finished with three. Junior Kelly Nolan matched her career-high with two goals along with a career-high six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
