
SHU Places Second at the Rider 5 Way

DaCosta and Nassaney tally runner-up performances
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University men's track & field team finished second at the Rider 5 Way with a team score of 125 on Sunday afternoon. The Pios bested Fordham by 23 points for second place.
Leading the way for the Pioneers was Roberto DaCosta and Owen Nassaney, who finished second in the 100m and the high jump, respectively. DaCosta set new season highs in the 100m (11.25) and 200m (23.15).
Douglas Suter (110m hurdles), Blake Stewart (long jump), Rafael Mahario (400m), and Albert DePierro IV (javelin) all earned third-place finishes. Suter (17.29), Stewart (6.88m), and Mahario (49.03) all set new personal records in their respective events.
Mahario (22.89) capped off his stellar day with a new PR in the 200m to place fourth.
Rounding out the Pios' individual top-five finishers were Aidan Glennon (4th/shot put), Cole Decusati (4th/discuss), Nazir Hibbert (4th/high jump), Jonathan Mahon (5th/400m), Dylan Hunt (5th/triple jump), Matthew Vene (5th//3000m), and Daniel Blatman (5th/discuss). Decusati set a new personal record in the discuss with a toss of 33.94m.
SHU also tallied a third-place showing in the 4x400 relay and a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 relay.
The Pioneers return to the track next for the two-day Black & Gold Invitational, hosted by Bryant, on Friday and Saturday, March 31-April 1.
