Racing starts at 7:45 a.m.
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The sun was glistening off the Housatonic River just before eight yesterday morning as Sacred Heart's new King rowing shells were placed in the water for the first time.
They were cruising through brackish currents in no time.
The Pios, led by second-year head coach and former All-American oarsman Lucas Wilhelm, had a very productive workout in preparation for the Spring racing season to get underway this weekend. SHU Women's Rowing hosts Fairfield and Bryant from Beacon Point Marine in Shelton on Saturday.
The Pioneers, who trained in Alabama during Spring Break, are coming off strong showings at last fall's Met Championships, Head of the Schuylkill and Head of the Charles.
Racing begins Saturday at 7:45 a.m. with 2,000-meter events for first, second and third varsity eights and varsity fours.
