NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Sacred Heart University women's track and field team opened the New Captains Classic, hosted by Christopher Newport, on Friday afternoon by competing in the heptathlon and two throwing events.
Of the four heptathlon events,
Magdalena Brogioli won one and finished second in the other three. The first year took first in the high jump by clearing 1.62m.
Madeline Archangelo won the shot put with a toss of 10.42m, while finishing third in the other three.
The Pioneers completed the javelin with three top-eight finishers.
Marisa Imme led the group in second place with a throw of 33.98m.
Kaitlyn Luba placed next in third with a toss of 31.26m. First year
Erin Dunn set a new personal record of 22.79m to take eighth.
Sacred Heart also had three top-nine finishers in the hammer throw.
Abbie Mokwuah placed the highest with a throw of 35.65m to take fourth.
Madeline Rivard (29.63m) and
Brianna Diaz (25.34m) finished back-to-back in eighth and ninth.
Day two of the New Captains Classic is set for tomorrow morning in Newport News, Va.
