DEDHAM, Mass. – The Sacred Heart University women's track and field team placed in a tie for 24th at the two-day New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) at the Solomon Outdoor Track on Friday and Saturday.
The Pioneers racked up 11 points over the weekend, tying Northeast Conference foe Merrimack. SHU finished just 10 points shy of tying Bryant and Coast Guard in 13th.
Abbie Mokwuah continued her outstanding graduate season by leading the Pios at the meet with a fourth-place showing in the shot put. The Longmeadow, Mass., native tallied a throw of 13.17m, her best mark since April 15's Merrimack Alumni Classic.
Madeline Archangelo also collected points for the Pios, placing sixth in the heptathlon with a personal-record 4,326 points. In addition, the senior did very well in the event's throwing disciplines, taking second in both the shot put (11.54m) and the javelin (31.41m).
Marisa Imme tallied the Pios' next-highest placement, taking seventh in the javelin. The sophomore recorded a new personal record in the event with a toss of 39.22m, topping her previous best by 2.82 meters.
Finally, the Pioneers collected a point by placing eighth in the 4x800m. SHU's team of
Angela Kaiser,
Megan Schneider,
Emily Raymond, and
Jessica Pigott clocked a time of 9:50.78, the team's best mark this season.
In addition to its point scorers, Sacred Heart had a handful of competitors compete in finals this weekend. Not only was Kaiser a part of SHU's 4x800m team, but she also placed 11th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:39.46. In addition,
Kelly Parker (12:10.66) and
Grace Miller (12:28.55) ranked 14th and 18th in the 3,000m steeplechase, respectively, with Miller setting a new PR.
Erin Lavelle and
Kaitlyn Luba also competed in finals for Sacred Heart, as the former took 12th in the long jump with a mark of 5.40m, and the latter recorded a throw of 35.40m in the javelin to finish 13th.
Tara Brody (11.18m) placed 11th in the triple jump to best her teammate
Ava Srinivasan (10.90m) in 16th.
