SHU will have five regattas, including one at home
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Sacred Heart University women's rowing head coach Luke Wilhelm has announced the 2024 spring schedule. Following its program-best fourth-place finish at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship last year, the Pioneers have their sights set on championship weekend.
The Pios will have five regattas throughout the spring, including a home race to celebrate senior day.
"Our spring schedule reflects our improvement in the fall," said Wilhelm. "We are going to more multi-lane, multi-day regattas with the goal of improving our racing acumen. By the time we line up at our conference champ finals, we will have a great amount of racing experience under our belts without compromising our training this spring. We have a long road before we line 'em up, but I'm very excited for every date on the schedule. Let's get rolling, Pio Navy."
SHU will open the spring season at UConn on March 29, taking on the Huskies along with Marist.
On April 13, the Pios will travel to Cherry Hill, N.J., to compete for the Knecht Cup.
The following weekend, SHU will head to Worcester, Mass., taking on Lehigh, MIT, Boston College, UConn, and Holy Cross.
SHU will celebrate its seniors and alumni, with a senior day and alumni party for a home regatta on the Housatonic on May 4.
The Pioneers will look to continue to make history for the program at the MAAC Championship on May 19 in Cherry Hill, N.J. A win at the MAAC Championship will send SHU to the NCAA Rowing Championship in Bethel, OH, from May 31- June 1, 2024.
