Equestrian Takes High Point Team Honors at Stony Brook

Kylie Hwalek grabs Reserve High Point Rider honors for first time in 2024-25

SELDON, N.Y. — Kylie Hwalek's Reserve High Point Rider honors propelled the Sacred Heart University equestrian team to its first High Point Team finish of the season, grabbing the top spot at an Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) show hosted by Stony Brook University on Sunday.

Hwalek, the 2024 IHSA National Champion in Open Fences, claimed her second-consecutive event win to start the 2024-25 season, grabbing first in Open Fences Section A coupled with a second place showing in Section B of Open Flat to earn Reserve High Point Rider honors. Joining Hwalek with event wins in Fences was Reagan Waggoner who took the top spot in Section B of Intermediate Fences. Eleese Shillingford had a strong showing in Section B of Open Fences claiming second as the Pios concluded the Fences portion of the show.

In Flats, Virginia Martin claimed the lone win for SHU with a first place showing in Section A of Limit Flat while Waggoner followed up her performance in Fences with a second-place showing in Section A of Intermediate Flat. Cynthia Estey grabbed third in Section B of Intermediate Flat to keep SHU in position to nab High Point Team Honors. In Novice, Amanda Cosentino grabbed second in Section B while Morgan McCrave had a strong show as well, finishing 2^nd in Section B of Introductory as the Pios eventually claimed High Point Team honors.
