Junior harrier grabs first conference accolade
EDISON, N.J. — With a top team finish at the Brown University Bear Invitational, Sacred Heart University men's cross country harrier Matthew Vene has been tabbed the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Male Runner of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
A junior out of Bayside, N.J., Vene grabbed his first, top team placement of the season with a 27:00 finish on the eight kilometer course lasrt weekend. Vene, who placed 21st overall, helped aid the Pioneers to a third place finish out of 22 teams that competed during the Invitational.
The 21st overall finish is Vene's highest placement of the season, however, he achieved a season-best time of 26:45 in the 8k at the Manhattan University Jasper Fall XC Invitational on September 14 as the Pios got their first look at a few fellow MAAC opponents.
The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, October 12 at the 112th Annual New England Cross Country Championships. More information can be found at sacredheartpioneers.com.
