FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Following a brief stint of non-conference action, the Sacred Heart University women's hockey team returns to New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) action this weekend with a home-and-home set against Post.
Puck drop from The Rinks at Shelton on Friday, December 6 is scheduled for 1 p.m. while Saturday's matchup from Martire Family Arena is slated for 7 p.m. More information can be found at sacredheartpioneers.com.
ORIGINAL SIX
The Pioneers (11-6-0, 10-2-0 NEWHA) head into the weekend having had its seven-game win streak snapped during the 2024 Nutmeg Classic but continues its seven-game heater in conference play this weekend against the Post Eagles (3-12-2, 3-8-2 NEWHA). SHU currently holds leads the all-time series 32-1-1 following its first-ever loss to the Eagles last season on December 9, 2023, by virtue of a 3-2 scoreline.
SHU heads into Friday's series boasting the conference's best points percentage through 12 games (.833) and currently sits in first place barring Thursday's action between LIU and Saint Anselm.
The Red & White claimed three of the NEWHA's Players of the Month for the second-consecutive time with the conference announcing its awards for November. Sophomore's
Isabella Chaput and
Peyton Bennetts claimed Player- and Defensive Player of the Month honors, respectively, while junior netminder
Jillian Petruno was named the conference's Goaltender of the Month.
Carly Greene,
Ella Holm and
Savannah Popick claimed NEWHA monthly nods for September/October.
Sophomore
Lauren Larson enters the weekend having earned single-game high's in saves in two games against No. 9/7 Quinnipiac in the past week. In the Friday affair during the Nutmeg Classic, Larson tallied 41 saves before grabbing a new career high in Tuesday's game in Hamden, stopping 47 shots against the Bobcats in a 2-1 loss.
Lake Bethard became the seventh Pioneer to record their first collegiate goal this season, tallying the lone goal in the 2-1 loss to #9/7 Quinnipiac on Tuesday. Bethard also became the fourth Pioneer blueliner to record a goal this season.
Isabella Chaput leads the Red & White in goals (8) and points (11) entering the weekend and has potted a goal in the last three conference contests.
Kailey Smith leads the team in assists after grabbing her sixth of the season during the Nutmeg Classic which earned her a spot on the Nutmeg Classic All-Tournament Team.
