Men's Basketball Hosts CCSU on Saturday for Senior Day

SHU will play its second home game of the week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fresh off a thrilling 99-91 victory over FDU on Thursday evening, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball is home for its second straight game on Saturday, February 24, taking on Central Connecticut State University at 2:00 pm. The Pioneers will honor their seven graduating seniors before the game.

  • Sacred Heart beat FDU, 99-91, at home on Thursday evening.
  • Kyle McGee and Joey Reilly each scored 21 points, leading six Pioneers in double figures in the win. Nico Galette grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Alex Sobel collected his 1,000th career rebound and finished the game with a game-high five blocks.
  • SHU scored the most points in an NEC men's basketball this season and took sole possession of third place in the conference standings.
  • The Pios had some hot shooting, going 38-62 (61.3%) from the field and 12-22 (54.5%) from three-point range.

  • Sacred Heart and CCSU wrap up the season series on Saturday. The Blue Devils took the first game 77-70 in New Britain. This marks the 64th match up all-time between SHU and CCSU. Sacred Heart has not lost at home to Central since March 1, 2014.
  • SHU is 8-5 in Northeast Conference play and sits in third place in conference standings. SHU is perfect at home in league play. The only losses in conference action have come on the road.
  • The Pioneers are coming off a big home win over FDU on Thursday, 99-91, where six players scored in double figures. Kyle McGee and Joey Reilly each scored 21 points to lead SHU. Alex Sobel recorded his 1,000th career rebound.
  • Four active Pioneers are averaging in double figures: Galette (13.8), Reilly (11.8), Sobel (11.7), and McGee (10.0). Galette leads the team in rebounds (7.0), and Sobel is second with 6.9 rpg.
  • Sobel is fourth in the nation in blocks with 74 (as of 2/22) and is fifth in blocks per game with 2.74.
  • SHU has four active 1,000-point scorers which is tied for the third most in the NCAA. 
  • Reilly, Galette, and Tanner Thomas have brought in NEC Player of the Week awards for the Pioneers this season. Sobel has been a Prime Performer three times.
  • Galette, Reilly, and Kyle McGee were voted captains for 2023-24.
  • SHU was selected first in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll. Galette and Reilly were selected to the All-NEC preseason team.
