How it Happened:
Despite outshooting the Dolphins by a 6-5 margin in the first period, the Pioneers could only find the back of the net once, thanks to an unassisted goal from Insinga less than two minutes in.
The second period saw both Sacred Heart and Le Moyne battle through two ties, 2-2 and 3-3, before an unassisted tally from Maddie Barney gave the hosts a one-goal lead at the half, 4-3. Nolan's goal at the 10:10 mark was her third of the season as well as forced the second tie of the game, 2-2, while Araneo's tally at 9:26 gave the Pioneers their second lead in regulation.
Sacred Heart held the upper hand in the third period as a pair of goals from Kittredge and Tanner evened the score, once again, 5-5, heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
Like the first period, both teams were held offensively to one goal each. With 7:13 remaining in regulation, Insinga netted her second tally of the game to even the score for a final time at 6-6. However, both teams' solid goalkeeping and defensive work forced the game into overtime.
A Pioneer foul in the circle gave the Dolphins the much-needed advantage as a free-position attempt was awarded to Shea Rhonee Pal, who found the back of the net against Martin for the game-winning goal for the hosts.
